Vintage Military Duffel Bag 1960's-1970's If you were in Vietnam or served in any military operation back before 1970, there were no MOLLE Packs, you have a basic duffel bag that you packed up with your belonging and that was it. The fabric once used to make such a sturdy overnight bag originally came from the Belgian town of Duffel. While the spelling has changed over the years, its origins have not. Duffel bags, duffle bags are large bags made of canvas that have historically used a drawstring for the top closure. Duffel bags are generally used for non-commissioned officers in the military, as well as civilians for travel, sports and entertainment. Duffel bags have a much longer history than many realize. They have been used in one way or another since the 15th-16th centuries and had not evolved much since their original origins. If you have a solider standing at a buss stop, having a duffel bag in the scene sets the mood of the solider either coming home or shipping out for a long period of time. The image of enlisted men going off to war would not be complete without this vintage prop.
