Why Props Matter for Filmmakers

We did not invest a fortune in props just to become hoarders. In fact, many of our props were very expensive and difficult to find.

It seems like most independent filmmakers are quite satisfied with finding a cheap location to film and working with whatever is on site. Very little planning or time designing sets which makes those productions stand out as amateurish and sloppy.

We watch big productions and ignore how much effort goes into set design. If flows seamlessly and makes us believe it is real. Every detail has been planned, planted and executed so that nobody thinks anything is out of place.

Of course, that does require a large budget.

But at Mr Dog Poop Studios we have invested a fortune into costume, props and creating themed sets so that filmmakers wont have to.

First and foremost so we can create our own productions without going out on location. And secondly, we wanted to create an affordable studio for local filmmakers.

And while we have had many local filmmakers working in our studio, they often fail to take advantage of the over 2000 square feet of props and set materials we have on site. But rather are just self involved in their own script thinking it is enough.

Well, it is not enough!

Making films is a big process and part of that is having the right "EVERYTHING!"

The right actors, the right set, the right props, the right production team and crew.

If any of those elements fail, so does the film.

This is why we try to work with producers in advance to provide as much help as possible to reach into our vast props and set up the best possible sets for their production.

Whether it is a courtroom or a hospital bed we have taken great time and effort to collect and build ready to go sets that can be set up in a few hours.

For the amount of effort that goes into a film, it seems like a no brainer to set up an amazing set.

So why do so many film makes fail to see the importance of props and set design.

Are they lazy or just short sighted?

We can't be sure, but we can tell you, our props are extensive and greatly under utilized by the productions that use our studio.

On the other hand, we take our productions to another level with the props we have collected over the last few years.
