Car Camera Mounts
As we progress on the path to create a TV series about Mr Dog Poop, we have realized that we will need some shots from moving vehicles.
We have not done any extensive exterior shooting of moving vehicles and began researching how to do that. What to use, how to manage light and so on and so forth.
Of course, it is easy on a process trailer because it is like a moving studio. Loads of room for gear, lighting and crew.
That was our overall plan, but at the same time, it is a huge undertaking to put a car on a trailer, rig the wheels to turn, create the lighting and mount all the cameras. Not to mention the amount of gear, speedrail, fittings and everything else.
Cameras are getting smaller and smaller and gear is getting more and more nimble with simple rigs that stick to vehicles in minutes.
So we decided to build a few small rigs to make filming faster and give us more options with a smaller crew.
However, we still need to film multiple angles with at least 3 cameras and remote audio which most of the smaller camera mounts do not really take into account. They are typically for a DSLR style camera with one camera mounted at a time.
So as we started building our rigs, we realized that there is no one rig that will do everything that we need. In fact, we need a bunch of different rigs.
As we started rigging cars, we realized how different each car is and that rigs need to be extremely flexible to fit virtually every possible combination of body panels.
Maybe it would be easier to build a dedicated process trailer?
Looking at prices of rigs whether you DIY or buy one premade is still expensive considering how many options you need.
So we decided to make the investment and build every possible rig we could using all the possible combinations of gear that we had.
It was a long involved process of building and testing.
But now, we are creating how to build a car rig videos on our YouTube channel. So if you want to build a car camera mount, or lean how to set up rigs on cars, check out our car camera rig playlist on YouTube.
