How to Make Viral Videos
If it was just that easy! Wouldn't it be wonderful if anyone could follow simple directions to make videos that go viral?
Well, essentially you can, at least to make a viral video.
But there is no guarantee that any video will go viral. No matter how amazing it is, how well done or how funny. There is no formula for making a viral video although some people have more success than others.
But we do have some good tips and methods that have worked for us making video that get millions of views over night.
- Jump on hot topics FIRST! - The first videos posted on breaking controversial news get the most views. If Joe Biden is caught walking up the steps on Air Force One with toilet paper stuck to his shoe, you need to see the breaking story and make a video about it FAST! People will be talking about it, laughing and most importantly searching for it. If your video engages people in a new way, you will get huge traffic and if people like it, they will share it.
- Make it MEMORABLE! - How many TikTok have you watched? How many do you remember? Why do you remember them? Asking yourself those questions and making sure your video has some memorable quality is crucial to retaining an audience. People will not talk about it, share it or go back to watch it again if they don't remember it.
- Keep it SHORT! - A good viral video connects with viewers immediately and keeps them on a high. If it drags on and builds on more than just the one viral idea, it is too long and you lost your hold over the viewers emotions.
- Build a following FIRST! - Dumping a viral video up on a channel where nobody will ever see it is pointless. Without the ability to get thousands of people to it, there is no chance it will go viral. So build a good base before you try to make videos viral.
- Plan FAST! - You don't have a lot of time to capitalize on trends, so be ready with ideas and the ability to get videos out in minutes. If it takes you a week to get a video out, you will never keep up or be able to capitalize on current topics.
- Funny is always GOOD! - You can't beat humor. But one persons humor is not another persons humor. So if you go the comedy route, keep it simple. Don't make videos that have to be explained to half the audience. Use content than anyone will understand. For example, slipping on a banana peel is funny to everyone. But, asking "What is the quickest way to determine the sex of a chromosome?" and answering "Pull down its genes" will only be funny for scientists.
- Stay out of POLITICS! - Try not to pick a side, making videos about politics can alienate half of your viewers. People may not subscribe or follow if they don't feel connected to you, if you think on the other side of the isle, people will avoid your channel. The same rule applies for religion, don't use religious references or say God bless you or other dumb things that serve to identify you as a particular religion.
- Have FUN! - At the end of the day, this is about doing what you enjoy doing. If you are not having fun, what is the point? Don't do something just to get views, do it because you enjoy it. Otherwise you will spend a lifetime chasing the Holy Grail and being miserable because you can't find it. Not to mention, your frustration will come across in the videos and turn off potential fans.
These are some great tips about how to add viral videos to your social media. But the reality is that there are billions of people trying to do it and only a handful are successful.
Make sure you get value out of your social media campaign. Whether it is generating a return on your investment in financial rewards or just making you happy, both are great returns. Of course happiness wont feed a family, but not everything is about money.
